From February 28 through March 7, 2015, a team will provide for the physical needs, as well as the spiritual needs, of the Honduran people. Follow us as we document the preparations and the planning, the training and the team-building, the going and the growing as we serve the LORD Jesus, our One and Only Savior, and the people of Honduras.

Our 2012 and 2013 missions are here as well ...

Optical ...

Optical was the next most visited area during 'Brigade'.  In four days, a total of 768 people came though the Optical area.  That's an average of 192 people per day (and that's a six-hour day)!  WOW!!

Each person would take a seat at the Auto Refractor machine and their eyes would be measured.  Anyone who was assigned this job compared it to playing a video game but they also said it was amazing to see how God made each person different - different eye shapes, sizes, colors, details within the eye - they thought it was really quite amazing.

'Optical' is one of the lighter areas in this ministry, a little more "comic-relief" than heartache as in some of the other areas.  Some of the ladies who were assigned to Optical had a great time!  They would verify the information on the 'eye script' and then show the people from which glasses they could choose.  They could choose any pair from those that matched their prescription.  They could also choose a pair of sunglasses.

Armando was the translator and he helped to make 'Optical' a fun and interesting place for Margaret and Becky to work.  Here, they are modeling some of the options for glasses.  Becky, those green ones go wonderfully with your lanyard!!

There are many glasses to choose from THANKS to all the people who donate their old glasses throughout the year! Deb and Sophia were sure to keep the choices plentiful and enjoyed helping their "customers" make their selections.

Each customer is also given a lovingly-made-handsewn eyeglasses case in which to keep his/her new glasses.  If you remember from a previous post, 600 cases were made by some sweet ladies from our church and a whopping 1200 were sewn by ladies at the larger church that we teamed up with!!
WHAT A BLESSING!!!

Ben had an opportunity to work in dental at the end of the week.  He said he really enjoyed it!

He got to further enhance his customer-service skills ... in another language!!

Ben also helped some of the staff choose a pair of sunglasses ...

... this young man was very happy with Ben's recommendation!

At one point, Ben had stated that he probably should have his eyes checked because he thinks his eyesight has changed.  Sarah, who was also working in 'Optical' had him sit right down so she could measure his eyes.  Thanks to dear, sweet husband for being quick with the camera for this kodak-moment!

Sure enough, though a small-ish prescription, Ben's eyesight would be improved with glasses so he sported these very bright spectacles!!  WOW, Ben ... I think they're really YOU!!

He decided he will probably go with a more serious look.  Awwwwe!

Working in 'Optical' taught Ben and Sarah interesting new skills - they helped people all throughout the day and made a great new friend in Armando!

Next Post:  Hmmm ... either Children's or Concrete ... or maybe I'll share what we did on our day off.
