From February 28 through March 7, 2015, a team will provide for the physical needs, as well as the spiritual needs, of the Honduran people. Follow us as we document the preparations and the planning, the training and the team-building, the going and the growing as we serve the LORD Jesus, our One and Only Savior, and the people of Honduras.

Our 2012 and 2013 missions are here as well ...

Hola Folks!!  I just had to make this effort to give you an update ... so much has been going on and God has really been at work ... we are so amazed and so blessed!!!

So what should we share with you first?

Okay, so this past weekend, we had another fundraising Rummage/Bake Sale at our church in the hopes of continuing to raise funds for our mission trip to Honduras.

I never really knew this about myself but I REALLY DO enjoy baking!!  And what I especially enjoy is that people REALLY DO enjoy my baking too!!  Admittedly, it is a slight ego boost, but it is a wonderful feeling that the things that I bake provide a little bit of sweet and satisfying comfort to the person who receives it.

Here are some of the Blueberry Coffee Cakes that I made ...

I also made Lemon-Blueberry Poundcake and Welsh Cakes.  Mmm Mmm delish - ous!!!

I just had to take this photo (below)!  This was a little family that came to our Rummage Sale.  They spent quite a bit of time going through all the items that we had (and we sure did have a lot!) and the young girl in this photo eventually needed a break.  She parked herself atop this Retro-looking red-velvet chair that was in the foyer of our church building and we chatted with her on and off.

(they were even good sports too as to allow me to take their photograph)

We kidded with her that she had sat in the chair for so long that it now belonged to her and she had to take it with her.  She repeated several times, "No Way!", "Uh-Uh", and "No Thank-you" ... but I was even more persistent and just as they were tallying their selections and making their contribution towards our mission trip, I made one last attempt at securing a new home for that Retro-looking red-velvet chair ... AND SHE CAVED!!!  SCORE!!!  Oh, how pleased I was ~ the chair went home with that nice, little family!  :-)

Friends, I am so blessed to be able to tell you (but certainly not surprised) that our 2nd Rummage/Bake Sale brought in just about $2,000.00!!!  That is SUPER Exciting!!
I just love to see how God works it all out ... how he arranged for each person to be a part of our fundraiser, how we were blessed and He was honored by each person who contributed to our mission fund, and how we were able to bless others who came in need of something that we could provide ...

... like the shy young man who came alone ... not sure what he was looking for but was assisted by several team members and left our fundraiser humble, yet a little excited, about his large bag of various suit coats and dress pants ...

... like the mother of multiple children whose husband has been out of work for a year and only had $3 to her name who selected various items for herself and her children and then left with more money than she had come with ...

... like the little family who came and only chose one very small cloth sofa, chair and footstool set designed for a small doll and one baked item and gave me $17.00 or the other family who came and chose one small rummage item and one baked good and gave $15.00 ...

... like the young mother of two little girls who we met at the Pizza Ranch and then invited to our Rummage Fundraiser so that she could potentially find whatever she needed for herself or her children ...

Our Rummage and Bake Sale is not only a fundraiser but an Outreach too.  We desire to show the everyday people of our community that we love them because Jesus first loved us.

And we're not done!!  No Way, Jose!!

Miracles for Honduras ... with a simple Rummage Sale

The below post is from an email sent to us from our Missions Committee Director, Pam.  She has been a tremendous motivator and she has been such a blessing to our mission team as well as Community Church of Elkhorn.  Just wanted to pass along the great stories she shared regarding our recent Rummage/Bake Sale held at our church a few weeks ago.

[When we started this journey to Honduras I would never have believed that God would give us so many miracles and blessings along the way.   Here are just a few that God has given me to share:

Many people think we should be pricing the items that we have in the "sale", however, God takes care of that:

Three young women (teenagers) came to the rummage sale.  Each of them pregnant, none married; they were looking for baby items.  One of the girls "bought" three brownies, one for each of them.  Their funds were very limited, however, as they turned to go one young girl reached into her pocket and brought out a wrinkled $5.00 bill, which was all she had.  She handed it to me and told me to put it towards our Honduras mission.  WOW! what a God moment.

Another woman selected just one small item and handed me $20.00 and said that she wished her church would do something like this.  Kim, you had given me a folder of information about Honduras which I gave to her and she said that she was going to bring this up at the next meeting at her church.  Where will God lead her church?  Let's pray it's to the mission field.  Miracles are everywhere!

As you know, I put an ad in the local paper with the date and times of our rummage sale.  I had a phone call from a lady that said she had read in the paper about our unique rummage sale with proceeds going to our Honduras mission team; she wanted to be a part of it by dropping off nick-knacks and other items (she usually gave to Goodwill)  for our church rummage sale.   (WOW! another God moment)   One of ladies from our church selected several small figurines (apparently, collector items) for herself and took them home.  Now here is the amazing part of the story.  A few days alter, this lady from our church was in the drugstore and she overheard a woman who was trying to purchase a figurine to replace the one she had accidentally broken while cleaning (she is a maid).  But the store employee told her that the particular figurine she was looking for had been discontinued.  The lady from our church stepped in and said that she thought she might have that exact figurine as she had just "purchased" it at the Community Church of Elkhorn's rummage sale.  Upon going home, sure enough, she had just the figurine the cleaning lady needed.  She contacted the store and told them she would drop off the figurine.  The cleaning lady wanted to pay for it, but "No Way!", the lady from our church was just thrilled to be a part of God's plan.  God moment from start to finish!  As it turned out, the lady from our church was able to find out the name of the cleaning lady and she could not believe it but she had been one of the many children she had driven on the school bus back and forth to school for many years.  What a blessing all the way around!

When people come up to me and ask the prices at our rummage sale, I tell them it is a simple donation to support our mission trip to Honduras.  Sooo many of them do not have much, but they literally open their wallets and give it all!!!  Blessings and miracles are all around us if we just open our eyes.

Collecting Supplies ... and PRAYERS!!

Hey You Guys!!
In case you forgot ...

The Community Church of Elkhorn is sending a team of 12 people to Honduras from 9/28-10/5/2013, to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the Honduran people in the capitol city of Tegucigalpa.  Our team consisting of medical professionals, as well as non-medical individuals, will provide medical, dental, vision and pharmaceutical care for many of the Honduran people who would not otherwise have the means to receive such care.  In addition, we will participate in a children’s ministry that will involve sharing a gospel message designed for children and giving each child a special bracelet to help them remember the message.

We've begun collecting supplies, ... items needed in serving and providing for the Honduran people.
Many of us are purchasing a few things each week ... some of us are sewing homemade eyeglasses cases for the Optical portion of the ministry ... we've received several donations!

This is a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of fellow human beings who do not have the resources to properly care for themselves.

Would you like to help us make a difference?  Do you know someone else you can invite to partner with us?

We are collecting donations of the following:

Adult and child toothbrushes and travel size toothpaste (Do you know a dentist who'd be willing to donate?)
Cough/Cold Tablets – Adult

Prenatal Vitamins
Vaginal Yeast Infection Treatment
